Our Rescue Mission
Southwest Tortoise Rescue is personally funded and operated to give Sulcata tortoises a safe place to heal, grow, and begin again. Many Sulcatas are purchased when they are small without families realizing how large, strong, and long-lived they can become. When owners can no longer provide the space, housing, nutrition, heat, or long-term care they require, rescue becomes an important safety net. At Southwest Tortoise Rescue, we provide appropriate housing, food, habitat maintenance, winter shelter, enrichment, and continued care for tortoises in need. Our work focuses on four goals: Rescue • Rehabilitate • Rehome • Educate A Self-Funded Rescue Southwest Tortoise Rescue is self-funded. The day-to-day costs of caring for the tortoises, maintaining their habitats, providing proper food and shelter, and meeting their ongoing needs are paid personally. That is also why the Peanut & Jelly project means so much to us. All proceeds from Peanut & Jelly books and merchandise help support the rescue and the tortoises in our care.Every book purchased, every shirt worn, and every person who shares Peanut and Jelly’s story helps us continue this work while spreading awareness about responsible tortoise ownership and animal rescue.
